Passing through the thousand-foot-high canyon walls of the Royal Gorge, rafters can gawk at the world's highest suspension bridge high above their heads. That's when they're not paddling like mad to navigate the rapids here, some of the most challenging on the river. Sledgehammer, Boat Eater, Wall Slammer and Corner Pocket are among the names of these intense rapids, and most companies require riders to have previous whitewater experience. The steep drop-offs and crashing waves make this a wet, frothy, and exciting ride.
Royal Gorge begins west of Canon City and runs to near the town.
