Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
Utah's West Desert may appear desolate to travelers passing through, but it offers a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. 4,000-foot Notch Peak is excellent for rock climbing, and Bull Flat, Cat Canyon, and Deseret Peak offer great hiking. The area is also popular for rock hounding due to the trilobite and fossil remains found there. Little Sahara Sand Dunes are located in the West Desert and include a 700-foot mountain of sand. There are a few campgrounds located in the area.
