Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
2,800 acre Scofield Reservoir is on the northern edge of the Wasatch Plateau. It offers good opportunities for boating, water skiing and fishing in summer, and in winter serves as a base for snowmobilers. The lake is stocked with rainbow and cutthroat trout.
Along the shore is modern Scofield State Park. It has a modern restroom with showers and boat slips and launch. It is set a bit out in the open, with the heights of the Wasatch Plateau rising a few miles off.
