Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
The North Fork of the Payette begins south of Payette Lake near McCall. Stretching south from here is the popular Cabarton Run, an 11-mile stretch of intermediate rapids with Class II to III rapids. This three-hour route allows rafters some excitement, as well as quiet stretches to appreciate the scenery of Boise National Forest. A unique travel option is to take the Thunder Mountain Railroad to the launch point at Cabarton Bridge.
