Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
The Colorado Canyons National Conservation Area contains many nationally significant resources including outstanding scenery, cultural and paleontological values, naturalness, recreation values, wildlife, and geologic and scientific values. The rural lifestyle of Mesa County is also an important value and traditional use of the area by livestock will continue.
