Description

Devils Tower rises 1267 feet above the Belle Fourche River. Once hidden, erosion has revealed Devils Tower. This 1347 acre park is covered with pine forests, woodlands, and grasslands. Deer, prairie dogs, and other wildlife are seen. Also known as Bears Lodge, it is a sacred site for many American Indians. President Theodore Roosevelt proclaimed Devils Tower the first national monument in 1906.

VISITOR CENTER

Devils Tower National Monument is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The visitor center is open April 18 through November 25, 2007, then closes for the season. Information can be obtained at the administration building during the winter.

April visitor center hours are 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Wednesdays through Sundays.

On April 30, the visitor center is open seven days a week, 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Beginning May 26 the visitor center is open every day from 9:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

On September 3, hours change to 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Beginning October 1, the visitor center will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The visitor center will close for the season on Monday, November 26.


CAMPGROUND

The campground and picnic area are open April 27 through the end of October, weather permitting.

Basic Directions

Visitors traveling east on I-90 exit at Moorcroft, WY. Visitors traveling west on I-90 use any of three Sundance, WY exits. From Moorcroft or Sundance, take 14 north to 24, take 24 north to Devils Tower.

A scenic alternative for visitors traveling west on I-90 – take exit 199, follow 111 north to 24, take 24 west through the town of Hulett to Devils Tower.
