Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
Bixler Saddle Trail starts at Bixler Saddle, at an elevation of 7,700 feet, on the west side of Bill Williams Mountain. From that point, it climbs through stands of ponderosa pine, Gambel oak, Douglas fir, white fir and aspen.
