New Brunswick is located in central New Jersey, and is home to approximately 48,500 residents. Relevant to the culture of New Brunswick are two major establishments, Rutgers University, and the Johnson and Johnson World Headquarters.

Rutgers maintains the young and trendy vibe in the area, with local theater and sporting events offered by the university. It also features the prestigious New Jersey Film Festival, which is popular with independent filmmakers across the country. Johnson and Johnson employs a huge number of residents in and around the surrounding towns of New Brunswick.

Delaware and Raritan Canal State Park and Cheesequake State Park are located in the towns around New Brunswick. Fishing, hiking and boating are available at the parks, and several gardens and nature centers surround the area as well. New Brunswick has what is known locally as "theater row," on Livingston Avenue where several theaters line the street offering travelers and locals fine entertainment.

New Brunswick is located in the central region of the state, with Edison to the northeast, and Somerville to the northwest. It is accessible via Amtrak, with connections to New Jersey transit bus and rail service. By car, the Garden State Parkway and the New Jersey Turnpike intersect in the northern area of New Brunswick.
