Description
The Canyon of Lodore runs 19 miles to Echo Park at the confluence with the Yampa River. It contains the best rapids on the river, including Disaster falls, Triplet Falls and Hell's Half Mile -- all Class 3 rapids. At the confluence the river widens and picks up speed as it heads west 17 miles through Whirlpool Canyon to Ruple Ranch. This section contains good, though less frequent rapids. At Ruple Ranch the river widens and slows, and gently meanders 5 miles through the Island Park area to Rainbow Park. .
