Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
This historic fort was established in 1867 and built in a square, 100 feet on each side, with materials such as volcanic rock. The walls are 18.5 feet tall, with 4 feet thick footings at the bottom, and 2.5 feet thick at the top. The fort has been restored and free guided tours are available daily.
