Ancient fossils still lie hidden in the bold and bronzen buttes of Badlands National Park, a protected wilderness penetrated by hiking and biking trails.
This trail meanders along the course of the Barclay Creek until reaching Barclay Lake. The trail provides easy hiking with little elevation gain. Good views of the north face of Baring Mountain can be had from the lake. Expect weekends to be crowded.
This is an easier hike that follows Barclay Creek through mixed forest until reaching Barclay Lake at an elevation of 2422 feet. Along the trail, you'll encounter old growth trees, deer ferns, trillium, wood violets, bleeding hearts and salmon berries in season. There are cedar boardwalks leading to a log bridge crossing the creek. Shortly after the bridge, you will arrive at the lake where you'll find fantastic views of the north face of Baring Mountain shooting straight up to 3700 feet.
A Northwest Forest Pass is required for each vehicle parked at the trailhead.
